Chic Eats

The 7th floor restaurant of Bergdorf Goodman, the Fifth Avenue department store, has compiled its own dishes alongside some of the fashion industry’s biggest names in a new, petite tome. The globally renowned retailer belongs to a rare set of iconic New York City institutions that appeals not only to tourists, but also to the most elite of locals. Released last month, the Bergdorf Goodman Cookbook was written by Laura Silverman with an introduction by Hal Rubenstein, and its pages were illustrated by Konstantin Kakanias, an artist and New York Time’s T Magazine contributing editor. The 7th floor is where the seasoned regulars converge seamlessly, in the Kelly Wearstler designed BG restaurant.

In recognition of this power spot, where the fashion set’s secrets are divulged over uptown fare, classic cocktails, and afternoon tea, BG produced a chic little book filled with recipes. Some are from its own kitchen, and others come courtesy of the fashion designers, editors, and stylists who eat there. Its content is heartily refreshing in an age when vegan, gluten-free detox diets dominate the culinary landscape. The restaurant shares tried-and-true recipes for fried, truffled potato chips and a luscious lobster bisque, Nina Garcia’s offering of her mother-in-law’s cream-laden Eggnog Pie, and T’s editor-in-chief, Deborah Needleman, recreates a pasta dish with Meyer lemon and arugula. Even Patricia Field- Carrie Bradshaw’s dresser on SATC- has a beet recipe. Primarily, it’s a book for people who enjoy cooking food, by big fashion names who- surprisingly- eat it. www.bergdorfgoodman.com
