There’s a new yoga trend in New York City that’s sure to empower all who participate. Lyons Den Power Yoga opened last November in TriBeCa, where Hot Power Vinyasa Yoga classes taught in the Baptiste Method motivates you to live boldly and courageously. These classes are held at slightly less oppressive temperatures- between 85 and 95 degrees- than Bikram and use very specific language, diction, and emphasis on certain words. Baptiste claims to give you the tools and direction you need to mirror balance, strength and flexibility needed in your everyday life in a fast pace and challenging nature. Lyons Den is the product of many years of combined experience from co-founders Bethany Lyons- a classically trained ballerina- and John Murray- who came from the hospitality world, having run some of NYC’s biggest restaurant and entertainment properties.
Bethany Lyons strikes a pose
Lyons has been a regional group fitness manager and yoga instructor at Crunch Fitness, and later became one of the first Soul Cycle master instructors, where her fitness fame skyrocketed. Additionally, she toured globally as a master instructor for Madonna’s gym, Hard Candy. In between, as a devoted yogi, she discovered Baptiste Yoga. Named after Walt Baptiste, it was first introduced in the 1940’s and its legacy has continued with his internationally renown son, Baron. Lyons Den is the only yoga studio in Manhattan dedicated to teaching in this method and classes are offered in both 60-minute and 90-minute durations. Power Flow classes provide cardio, strength-training and guided time to reflect and meditate. Voluspa candles accent the chic, minimalist studio designed with wood floors and lots of natural light pouring in through the huge floor to ceiling windows. Lyons hopes her den will morph her fit followers into kings of the jungle… New York, that is. www.lyonsdenpoweryoga.com
