Manhattan’s Albright Fashion Library is a secret resource of stylists and designers alike. Some of the industry’s biggest image makers have curated a new exhibit Albright Goes to School- sponsored by MAC Cosmetics- which is currently on display in the lobby of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology through March 31. Albright Goes to School is a 10th-anniversary exhibition featuring designs from the Albright Fashion Library- otherwise known as NY’s hidden fashion closet- styled by fashion insiders and costume designers. The library is a haven for everything from Azzedine Alaia all the way down to Zac Posen and an essential stop for the fashion elite. Every day stylists, editors, and designers visit the 7,000 sq. foot showroom- where racks are jammed with colorful sequins and frocks- to make use of a comprehensive yet impeccably edited collection of 20,000 items.
Albright offers an archive of classic pieces from Chanel to Dior to Gucci to Manolo Blahnik as well as contemporary looks by some of the most exciting young designers working today…and if Vogue’s closet made Carrie Bradshaw lose her mind, this will blow you right into orbit. Irene Albright worked for years as stylist and consultant to some of the fashion world’s most prominent magazines and photographers and now the honor is on her. James Gager- the creative director and SVP for MAC- feels that coming from a cosmetic brands’ perspective, the exhibit has allowed his company to participate in the conversation with students who represent the future of his industry. He also goes on to say that beauty and fashion are kind of like twins where trends in both are cyclical yet evolving, and working with this esteemed group of stylists allows students and the public to understand the artistic part of fashion and the important role the stylists play. Amen to that… www.albrightnyc.com
