Forget Equinox, joining Chanel’s sports club is way more stylish. The first ever Chanel Gym opened in Bergdorf Goodman where barbells, fencing, and benches have replaced clothing racks. While shopping at Bergdorf’s doesn’t usually require athletic prowess of any sort, except navigating the shoe sale, the pop-up boutique – which resembles a reinterpreted sports club complete with lockers- from Karl and company was inspired by the brand’s fall/winter 2014 Sporty Coco Coach ad campaign featuring Cara Delevingne. Aiming for a youthful consumer, think Millennials, Chanel is reaching out to younger shoppers- who purchase trendy apparel and match it with luxury accessories such as bags and shoes- via this temporary display on Bergdorf’s 5F contemporary department, where the younger labels include Rag & Bone and Alexander Wang, among others.
As the collection embodies a youthful sense of freedom and celebrates the crossroads of high fashion and downtown cool, the contemporary floor is the perfect venue for these goods that feature ready-to-wear, bags, costume jewelry, sunglasses and sneakers. Appropriately, founding designer Coco Chanel was an athlete, partaking in equestrian sports, golf, skiing and fishing and made apparel that was easy for everyday life. With this collection, getting physical has never been more edgy or chic. Your trainer would approve. On display through October 19, 2014. www.bergdorfgoodman.com
