Chamber of Cool

A boutique of limited edition design, objects and art opened last month in the ground floor of the famous HL 23 building on the High Line, in New York’s West Chelsea district. Chamber is a mix of design, gallery and store, creating a new and unique retail experience. This concept shop is filled with pricey unusual objects, rare vintage objects and limited-edition art, each collection lasting a couple of years. The interiors were designed by the NYC-based studio MOS, where Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample have emerged as two of architecture’s most daring experimenters. They’ve created a vaulted-ceiling boutique with perforated metal walls and concrete walls at the base of the High Line’s elevated railway tracks.

The 2,295 square foot space is the concept and vision of Argentine founder Juan Garcia Mosqueda, where every two years he will choose a different designer or creative to curate the shop’s program. New items will enter the shop over the course of the run, including fragrances made for Chamber by Julian Bedel of Argentine perfumery Fueguia 1833, and Dystopian Brutalist shirts by Martijn Strien. Dutch designers Studio Job curate Collection 1, which includes a mix of pieces made exclusively for Chamber. Studio Job’s selection of 100 desirable items includes a burnt wood butcher block table by Maarten Baas, a vintage fiberglass chair by Joe Colombo and a neon sculpture by the architect Neil Denari.
