Dwell on Design, America’s largest design event, celebrated its 10th annual show with record attendance. Dwell on Design returned to the Los Angeles Convention Center last weekend, offering continuous content from more than 250 leaders in design, 2,000 modern furnishings and products from 400 exhibitors. The official host sponsor was Airbnb- who provided a cool on-site home tour– where this innovative 3-day event welcomed attendees, celebrities such as Tyra Banks, and participants from around the world for a celebration and exploration of modern design through on-stage content, inspiring exhibitions, Porsche ride and drives, home tours, and Dwell Design Week events- which included a series of events and home tours around Los Angeles. Dutch designer Marcel Wanders kicked off the show as keynote speaker to a standing room only audience providing an inspiring talk about the importance of open-mindedness and the responsibility of bringing humanity into the design industry’s work.
Dwell Outdoor transformed more than 28,000 square feet into a botanical oasis, which definitely made the several tricked out teepees with boho-chic interiors plus stylish airstream trailer- that could be the perfect Burning Man accessory- look like a groovy scene from the 70’s… which was a good thing. A newcomer to the show floor was the Re-Imagined Pavillion with products from LG Studio, LG’s premium line of kitchen appliances with two kitchens designed by LG Studio artistic advisor Nate Berkus, who was on hand providing expert advice in designing a kitchen that directly reflected the individual consumer. All this creativity was very inspiring, but my favorite takeaway- literally- from the show was a gorgeous pair of 3-D earrings by designer and architect Jenny Wu. Dwell- and drool– worthy for sure…
