There’s a new beauty ritual for the hair-obsessed, where tarnished strands can soak up all-natural and edible hydrating masks. The Broot- on the stylish Montana Ave in Santa Monica- is a hair treatment bar for your weary and stressed-out follicles. At first glance, this charming salon appears to be yet another LA smoothie dwelling…until you notice these delish ingredients are used to create nourishing hair potions.
The Broot opened last fall, where owner Samira Asemanfar- who is also behind the LA mani-pedi spot Bellacures- had been procuring her own at-home treatments for years, and realized these concoctions would be an instant smash with women-as well as men- who could use a little hair TLC. Now that her secret is out, everyone can have Samira’s glowing locks, just by pilfering through their kitchen- or in this case, her salon. Once your hair is assessed by the BrooTender, a blend that is best-suited to your hair type will be applied after a relaxing scalp massage, and then followed by a fifteen minute heat-blast under the dryer- which enables deeper saturation. After this yummy-goo is washed out with Macadamia Natural Oil shampoo, you’re given the option to have your hair blown-out, braided, or chignon-ed.
These three featured masks are the most craved for- Strength, which is infused with bananas, eggs, oils and honey, while Reconstruct adds mayonnaise- nature’s best deep conditioner, and Rehydrate throws some avocados into the mix. Should a custom mask be your preference, you can collaborate with your BrooTender and get creative. As these organic foods are normally ingested and do provide your skin and hair with valuable nutrients, why not slather them all over your hair instead…which can be a much healthier alternative to the chemicals that are often found in the arsenal of hair products out there- and in my bathroom by the way. Assured that your lush and lacquered mane will turn heads on the street, you may now want to keep a banana or two on hand…just in case, for those dull hair-days. www.thebroot.com
