Deep in the lush canyons of Los Angeles near the infamous Mulholland Drive- which overlooks the city glistened in lights- the sound of music can be heard streaming out of Vibrato Jazz Grill, a premiere jazz space which happens to be owned by the legendary Herb Alpert, and his daughter Eden. With state-of-the-art acoustics, this elegantly designed supper-club transforms you to another era, where you can be entertained by world-class musicians who come from afar, as well as the countless local music-industry greats.
Alpert, the Latin-influenced jazz-pop trumpeter, bandleader, and Broadway producer- whose stellar career spans decades- always envisioned owning a jazz club- after all he did own the record label A&M- and his charming daughter Eden runs the show…working the room with ease, as if the crowd were all guests to her own dinner party. With performances six nights a week, Vibrato- which opened in 2004- still manages to fill every seat nightly, where enthusiasts can enjoy a set of captivating fusion. Located in the seemingly casual but ever-so-chic Beverly Glen Center in Bel-Air, you just may run into neighbors Warren Beatty or Jack Nicholson at the bar- where the clever mixologist conjures up some fierce drinks from their newly refurbished cocktail menu- to accompany the deliciously diverse new-American cuisine.
Past performers include Billy Childs, Chuck Mangione, Steve Tyrell and Toots Thieleman, and the upcoming April 9-10 return of the Gipsy All-Stars- a mash-up of past Gipsy King tunes as well as flavors of Indo-Gypsy melodic-exotic-ness, featuring an original band member- is sure to be a rapid sell out. Vibrato is not only a refuge for quality music, it can also be a romantic hide-a-way for dinner, or just a cozy abode for drinks with your neighbors…and this being Los Angeles, your very famous neighbors. www.vibratogrilljazz.com
