Vegan Varnish

Consumed by everything makeup from a very young age, along with a major case of OCD, David Klasfeld finally developed his own line of cosmetics in 2004- which happens to to be named after his disorder. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is the PETA darling of the cosmetics industry as these innovative formulas are all animal cruelty-free, per the brand’s mission statement. The products are also completely vegan- even the brushes have synthetic bristles with plant-based glue- in efforts to thwart potential food allergies or dietary restrictions to all makeup diehards.

Klasfeld, who is chief executive, creative director and founder of OCC, offers approximately 300 cutting edge products, such as oil and silicone free airbrush foundation- which comes in handy if you find yourself in front of a high-definition camera anytime soon. The cult favorite, Lip Tar, is a liquified lipstick which some swear will stay on throughout the night, perhaps even long enough for your first coffee of the day, with an extra shot of gloss. Flaming neon lip colors and shimmery metallic eyeshadows may be a club-kid’s perfect combo- or for me, a anytime look- and Klasfeld has even marketed these products with a bevy of drag queens.

He began his career as a color consultant at The Body Shop while in college- another animal cruelty-free company- and would later become a freelance makeup artist working backstage at notorious runway shows. During one of his OCD moments, he would collect 42 different shampoos and conditioners and go through them all because he would never use the same brands twice in one week. Thankfully he made good use of all his compulsions, resulting in OCC’s tiny chic flagship store and headquarters located in the happening Lower East Side of NYC, where you will find a productive playground for the obsessedwww.occmakeup.com
