Hey Mr. DJ

There are arguably several reasons to love Los Angeles, whether its the endless sunshine or the uber cool lifestyle you are seeking this city has something to offer just about everyone. But for me, I have to say my favorite thing about LA is Jason Bentley. A revered DJ of leading edge dance/electronic music, host of Morning Becomes Eclectic and Music Director for the iconic radio station KCRW- LA’s indie institution– it also doesn’t hurt that Bentley kind of resembles another one of my cultural icons, Tom Ford. With over 20 years on the air, the Boston born- Santa Monica raised Bentley has cultivated a distinguished career not only at KCRW, but also as a music supervisor for film and advertising, having coordinated music for all three Matrix films among others.

Bentley began his career at KCRW as a phone volunteer in 1988, and went on to attend college while he worked as a DJ at their college station. In 1992 he went back to KCRW, this time on-air, and today he’s still the same obsessive music fan he was as a teenager…as the station serves as a breeding ground for progressive dance culture. Passionate about music, Bentley can be found late night in LA and around the world DJ’ing everything from small exclusive events to massive dance parties. And he seems to be everywhere these days, going live from the Sundance Film Festival or spinning at Coachella, and even presenting major acts at the Hollywood Bowl. He also takes his tastemaker status very seriously and still listens in anticipation for that next brilliant sound, believing that music is a profound connection between people.

In 2004 Bentley was part of a group that championed the Recording Academy to add a Best Electronic/Dance Album Category to the Grammy Awards…which in my opinion has brought the show up to speed. A perfectionist, Bentley loves his craft and is driven to share his excitement with anyone who will listen…that being millions of Angelenos and more who stream him into their part of the world, wherever that may be. And did I mention he’s single? www.kcrw.com
