It’s Showtime!

It’s not an everyday occurrence to have screaming fans and flashing lightbulbs thrust upon me as I make my way into a soiree, but this being Los Angeles and Emmy weekend, anything is possible…especially if you’re headed into Showtime’s Emmy Eve Party. The fete, which is held annually at Sunset Tower Hotel the night before the Emmy Awards, celebrated the network’s 31 nominations and had some major red carpet gridlock going on. As I am seriously attached to almost every program on Showtime- and still mourning Dexter’s demise the other night- rubbing elbows with the casts from these coveted shows was like a surreal episode within an episode, Curb Your Enthusiasm style- wait, that’s over on HBO…well you get the picture.

As I stood next to Jon Voight as Rufus Wainright performed a few songs at the piano while Mandy Patinkin cheered him on, I was beyond distracted, wondering if Ray Donovan would really off his own father, or what will become of Saul and Carrie’s working relationship in the new season of Homeland. On my way to grab a drink, I ran into Edie Falco- with Merritt Weaver, who gave what was probably the shortest acceptance speech in Emmy history- and suddenly lost my desire for a specialty SVEDKA vodka cocktail, sincerely worried for Nurse Jackie as she seems to be headed towards pill-popping mode once again. But my dark mood suddenly shifted when I glimpsed the crazy yet hilarious crew of Shameless, hoping they get a bigger house next season now that Fiona has a real job. Although I managed to miss Claire Danes wearing Lanvin and Damian Lewis wearing a shaved head- I did have another party to attend after all- I was crazed when I saw Yvonne Strahovski- who was stunning in white, even for a serial killer- and almost hijacked her plate of food until she told me how the Dexter finale was going to play out. It’s a good thing I didn’t, or I could have ended up like Deb…
