Chic Girl Hunting

I find it fascinating how an Upper East Side New Yorker could trade in her Christian Louboutins for camouflaged hunting gear, but for thirty two year old Georgia Pellegrini her transformation from an investment banker to empowerment guru was as organic as the food she hunts. Ten years ago Pellegrini ditched her career in finance to become a chef, having worked at Gramercy Tavern and Blue Hill at Stone Barns which eventually led her to hunting. She wrote the best selling book Girl Hunter detailing her Annie Oakley-esque lifestyle which later resulted in teaching groups of women how to fire a shotgun on a Montana Ranch. It’s not an everyday occurrence to run into a modern-day woman who could hunt, shoot and gut their dinners- I can only navigate Whole Foods- but scores of professional women flock to Pellegrini to learn how, as she insists the hunt can be stylish, edgy and alluring.

Now hosting adventure weekends called Girl Hunter Adventure Getaways, Pellegrini offers a dozen women at a time from California, Colorado, Texas, Canada and beyond, fly-fishing, horseback riding, falconry, ATV riding, and pheasant hunts situated around ideal land in Virginia, Georgia, and Kentucky, in addition to Montana. These women work in real estate, academia, and fashion and are seeking to re-establish contact with their primitive selves…and who better to learn from than a woman who writes, hunts and even cooks her lion meat. Pellegrini’s next book Modern Pioneering will offer tips such as how to use a compass, how to turn Mason jars into lanterns, and how to make lip gloss from beet juice. Now we’re talking…  www.georgiapellegrini.com
