Throughout Los Angeles, whispers of the British are coming could be heard everywhere this past year, as most Angelenos patiently awaited the arrival of Topshop, the British high street retailer and mecca for cool girls around the globe. The West Coast’s flagship store has finally opened, earlier this month, and its new home is a gleaming 30,000 square-foot space at The Grove. With a rock-star following, a crowd of 10,000 loyalists lined up to gain entry on the first day- amidst the celeb-filled festivities- where this electic mix of British style, ranging from vintage, to party, to casual, is sure to be a daily mob-scene.
With over 300 stores just in the UK alone, Topshop- and its male counterpart Topman- is usually compared to Forever 21 and H&M- but fresher, and has had the business savvy to partner with fashions biggest names, such as Kate Moss- who designed a line for the brand which was inspired by her boho style- as well as Kate Bosworth, who lent her name to a select line that will be sold at The Grove location only. The owner, British fashion mogul Sir Philip Green, had already opened three US stores prior to Los Angeles- New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas- however, the LA presence is very much influenced by the Hollywood-glam factor, offering up VIP dressing suites, shoe and denim lounges, as well as personal shopping and concierge services.
This one-stop shopping integrates clothing, make-up, handbags, accessories, and celebrity collaborations into several collections, such as the Unique line where you can find runway inspired pieces- at reasonable prices. With everything flying off the shelves since its opening- but quickly replenished- I must hurry there soon to add to my assortment of vintage jeans, and will most likely be spotted sweeping through the denim lounge… with all the other Topshop fanatics. us.topshop.com
