Bennie Gray is the man behind Alfies Antiques Market which opened in 1976 in a former department store. Located in London’s fashionable Marylebone area, Alfies is the largest indoor market for antiques with 100 dealers trading there. This multi-level cave is a treasure trove where you can buy a huge range of antiques and retro goods from the 20th century including vintage fashion and accessories, modernist furniture, costume jewelry, and 20th century decorative arts. And like most great shopping meccas, there’s a rooftop cafe where you can grab a tea and scone and other savory bites after wandering about the vast emporium.
London is vintage heaven for the discerning shopper in search of designer gems from years gone by, and people from all over the world come to this vast emporium to take in its bohemian chic atmosphere, and to find something unique amongst the eclectic collection. Alfies has been attracting serious collectors, interior designers and celebrities for over 30 years, and within this authentic bohemian market you can virtually find any kind of antique there. Persiflage, the clothing shop on the second floor, offers fab vintage items like a 1972 silk-jersey and leather dress by Jean Muir and a whole rack of the sorts of flowing organza gowns Princess Margaret used to troll around in Mustique.
