Named after a small square in Paris, Les Petits Carreaux is a new fine clothing label for children founded by two French moms who believe kids clothes should be stylish as well as comfortable and simple. Amen to that. A collection of classics for boys and girls – ages 4 through 12- offering exceptional fabrics, impeccable tailoring and pure comfort, Les Petits Carreaux is unique in that it’s designed in France and made in California. French ex-pat Stephane Ross is married to an American lawyer and lives across the San Francisco Bay with her son, while designer Alice Shamreiz lives in Paris with her three kids, having worked for Sonia Rykiel and Cacharel.
Ross was left sleepless at night, weary over the lack of beautiful clothing options for her son- SF sadly lacks the gorgeous European outposts found in NY or LA- so she decided to go about making them herself. She partnered with Shamreiz to create Les Petits Carreaux- which means plaid in French- where they marry top quality fabrics with simple designs that kids can wear everyday, stylishly. Shamreiz sketches the designs in Paris and Ross selects the fabrics locally in San Francisco, where patterns are cut and sewn in factories. The timeless pieces won’t be dated by the time the new school year starts- hello Gap- because the ladies draw their inspiration from classic French culture. Les Petits Carreaux is a world where plaids and prints come together in a look that is elegant and distinctly French. I like that world… it’s just a shame they don’t design for grownups. lespetits-carreaux.com
