Members-only clubs have long been around, but now these privileged playpens have infiltrated the world of blow-outs…as the actress, cookbook author, and Goop goddess- plus my personal vanguard of all things beyond- Gwyneth Paltrow, has partnered with her hairstylist, David Babaii, and fitness guru, Tracy Anderson, to open the luxe David Babaii Blow Dry Bar inside Anderson’s new flagship studio- exclusive to her members, in the fashionable Brentwood section of Los Angeles. Babaii styles the famous strands of Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie- along with Gwyneth-and will carry his own line of chemical-free, and animal cruelty-free products while administering the sleek signature straight look that Gwyneth is usually photographed for- in addition to beachy-boho waves, of-the-moment braids, and posh up-dos. This trifecta has been closely intertwined for years as Anderson helped Babaii shed over 100 lbs, and their collective philosophy of transforming the body, spirit, and hair is in perfect synch. For those women who want long lasting blowouts, or even workout ready hairstyles, Babaii is their man…and when it’s time for Tracy to work them over, no doubt they won’t have a hair out of place. www.tracyandersonmethod.com
For the traditional man who is also in touch with their own pampering needs, John Allan recently opened his fifth grooming den, JA Razor Club, in San Francisco, having established his other locations in New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Beverly Hills for decades now. Allan began his career in Paris in the late 1970’s, having been obsessed with mens grooming while growing up in Miami, and subsequently landed in New York where he became a member in his own right of a very select group of hair phenoms who tended to all. He recently partnered with the designer John Varvatos, and his club- which provides men a more comfortable environment than a salon, and carries his new product The Black Line– is housed inside Varvato’s hip SF outpost… where pool tables, appetizers, and Scotch mix well with shoe shines, haircuts, shaves, and mani/pedis. If you ask me, offering men a place to chill-out and get spiffed-up is definitely a great service to women as well… www.johnallans.com
