Channel your hidden Martha Stewart skills- or at least try to find them- when People’s Pop-Up takes over a host of Los Angeles boutiques and creative spaces for seven amazing hands-on workshops led by local talents, including costume designer Colleen Monroe, woodcarving guru Yo Takimoto, pro shutterbug Loretta Ayeroff and others. Brother and sister duo Philip and Kathleen Graulty are on a mission to make LA a city of craftsters with People’s Pop-Up, which kicks off July 24 through August 9. Because they’re a pop-up, their events span the entire city as they partner with local businesses to repurpose retail stores, restaurants, and community spaces into temporary classrooms.
Director and co-founder Philip Graulty is a passionate community arts organizer who loves to build partnerships and facilitate collaboration, while his sister Kathleen co-founded an education/travel company for international students.Together they created People’s Pop-Up- a marketplace and resource for DIY and craft workshops happening throughout LA, and eventually nationwide- to connect teaching artisans with local businesses and bring DIY classes to the masses. Sessions also include Beginning Knitting at Maker City LA with veteran artist David Orozco, and Bitters, Spirits, and Cocktails: Simplified with the guys behind DTLA’s Cocktail Academy. Your most creative summer yet is about to land in LA, where you can learn from local artists, cultivate new skills, or just engage with your community… over a killer cocktail. www.peoplespopup.com
