Eat Pot

No, I am not referring to those kind of baked goods or any other type of edibles. However, Angelenos are flocking to Koreatown to sample some of Roy Choi’s delicious hot pots at his latest hot spot POT, the new restaurant inside The Line Hotel. Celeb-chef Choi is known around LA- and internationally- as the Kogi guy, who made chasing down food trucks chic and eating with your hands socially acceptable. At POT, he went back to his roots and is doing more traditional Korean food as his menu lists about ten hot pots, which are extraordinarily huge Korean stews served family style. All tables have built-in heaters to make sure your pot stays warm and the Sean Knibb designed room is minimalist, with pale floral walls and beveled edge tables with cubby-like shelves that hold cups and utensils.

The very filling- and very reasonably priced- pots all have names like the beep beep- after the roadrunner, of course- which is a uni dynamite rice bowl topped with fresh sea urchin roe. You can also find ramen noodles mixed with hot dogs, and the stash consists of potato chips, beef jerky, dried pineapple, nuts and furikake flakes-  which sounds like the perfect late-night fix after indulging in the…um…real pot. More things on the menu include dumplings in chile dipping sauce, marinated blue crab and yellow fin tuna poke. Choi’s adjacent Pot Cafe is a version of a Korean bakery helmed by Momofuku Milk Bar alum Marian Mar, with a pastry case filled with red bean buns, cream buns, French bread pizzas and treats such as a black sesame mochi butter bar. You better bring a big appetite to POT… www.eatatpot.com
