Barry Sternlicht of Starwood Capital, partnered with LeFrak, a privately held group of real estate companies, to open its newest property, 1 Hotel South Beach, in Miami. Providing an ultra-glam atmosphere-that’s also ultra green- the hotel is very luxurious and eco-obsessive with a laundry list of green amenities. With a farmstand in the lobby, a fleet of Tesla cars, and 100 percent organic linens, 1 Hotel South Beach is the ultimate eco-friendly oasis. The former Gansevoort showcases repurposed and environmentally friendly materials in spectacular ways, having opened for business in late March after a $500 million dollar complete overhaul.
All 426-rooms- each a spacious 700 square feet, on average- come with Triple-Clear water filters- who needs those toxic plastic bottles?- hemp blend filled Keetsa mattresses, terrariums, yoga mats, meditation guides… and a $700 rate per night. The property includes four pools, including one on the roof; a signature restaurant called Beachcraft, lobby bar and poolside restaurant from celebrity chef Tom Colicchio; another restaurant, STK Miami; a ballroom; and meeting space. Ceilings of the lobby are made of wood reclaimed from water towers in Alaska, while some of the furniture was crafted with fallen trees from South American rain forests. The hotel expects the brand’s sensibilities to resonate with modern hotel guests who seek out authenticity while traveling, without giving up luxury. A Central Park location in New York is expected to open in July, followed by a site in Brooklyn Bridge Park. www.1hotels.com
