At the Ace Hotel in London’s Shoreditch district- a historic neighborhood and hub for galleries, theaters, and fashion- London’s it florist Hattie Fox set up her floral and botanical design studio and shop when the hotel opened in 2013- this is the first Ace Hotel outside America. Fox founded That Flower Shop in 2011, inspired by lush, natural gardens and landscapes with a nod to the organic beauty of the wild. Sourcing only the freshest and most interesting seasonal flowers and foliage around- mostly from British growers- Fox’s gorgeous and unexpected pedals keep good company with the hotel’s gallery space, cafe, and juice bar inside the mid-century and vintage modern interior that was designed by Universal Design Studio, a local interior design firm within walking distance of the hotel.
Fox uses sophisticated yet natural combinations of typical country flowers, mixed herbs and British foliage, tied together with a love for eclectic vases and ceramics. Before moving to London she had been working for her dad’s landscaping company, and while studying art she worked at a florist in Notting Hill where she gained the experience and fortitude to strike out on her own. That Flower Shop always has a selection of seasonal fresh flowers ready for delivery or collection- such as a recent spring wedding filled with tulips, peonies, ranunculus and lisianthus. Fox has designed headpieces for a Wall Street Journal fashion spread, has planted the VIP area at Wimbledon, and does regular maintenance to keep gardens alive on clients’ rooftops. www.acehotel.com/london
