Los Angeles-based sculptor and artist, Elyse Graham has found her design niche in reinterpreting the way we appreciate nature’s elements- geology has influenced a lot of her resin pieces. She is mastering a new form in developing decorative vases, geodes, small scale jewelry and accessories, with the intent of leading to larger tabletop pieces and furniture. Individually handmade in her studio, each one of these one-of-a-kind works of art are exclusive to her clients. Graham is quickly finding her mark in the saturated, highly creative and spirited realm of design through use of unique materials and methodologies that transform her surprising and colorful sculptures.
Curious, and always experimenting, Graham has recently been creating vases, literally one breath at a time. Neither glass or ceramic, an unlikely combination of materials and process has inspired a collection of vases that, while hollow, are filled with a certain mystery. She casts her Drip Vases from balloons, coating the interiors with layers of resin and outside surfaces with plaster to spectacular, saturated effect. By hand-mixing the dyes and pigments as she works, each piece is composed of a completely unique setoff colors. This is Graham’s first foray into decorative objects, a practice she began just over a year ago. Each balloon’s shape is informed by the breath it contains, making a permanent, tangible object in the likeness of that invisible force. Up, up, and away… elysegraham.com
