Part of the gentrification of San Francisco’s seedy-to-shiny mid Market district is the transformation of the Art Deco building on 10th and Market Street- the old SF Furniture Mart- commonly known as the Twitter Building. Now, it’s in full swing with the recent opening of The Market, a 22,000 square foot food market with a storefront cafe, and several restaurants and retail stalls, holding court in the building’s ground floor. The Market offers natural and specialty foods, partnering with local purveyors and micro-entrepreneurs to provide a selection of prepared foods, produce, and fresh meat and fish.

This is the first in a series of Market branded groceries from retail architects turned gourmand shopkeepers Bruce Slesinger and Tom Collom, and partners Richard Hoff and Chris Foley. With in-house stations like a pizzeria, an oyster bar, and a tapas bar- and subtenants including Blue Bottle Coffee and Nuubia Chocolate- The Market is already touting itself as the NorCal Eataly. Whether or not that’s true, this new foodie hall- in addition to the Ferry Building down the street- will surely keep the Twitter folks and other nearby dot.com’s well fed. www.visitthemarket.com
