Get to the Met

A barrage of Jamesian trains and silhouettes graced the red carpet Monday night at the Costume Institute Gala- otherwise known as the Met Ball- as the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute embraced old school elegance with the most romantic dresses. Aerin Lauder chaired the gala along with co-chairs Sarah Jessica Parker, Bradley Cooper, Oscar de la Renta, Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch and Anna Wintour. This year’s theme coincided with the exhibition Charles James: Beyond Fashion slated to open May 8th at the Costume Institute’s new Anna Wintour Costume Center. The legendary Anglo-American couturier was known for utterly glamorous, stunningly architectural ball gowns and the exhibit spans his career from the 1920’s until his death in 1978 – at the iconic Chelsea Hotel, by the way. A host of fashionistas and a slew of celebrities feted this crossroads of the arts, fashion and entertainment. Some of these looks wow’d, while others underwhelmed, and there were more than a few missteps- um, Kate Upton?. Take a look at what got our attention.
