Alexx Jae Monkarsh and Bari Milken Bernstein are two lifelong friends- both born and raised in Los Angeles- who decided to team up on a business venture…that being fashion. Bernstein owns the exclusive West Hollywood boutique Milk, which is a favorite shopping staple among the LA style-set, and Monkarsh always wanted to create a green fashion line, having been environmentally aware as her mother is president of the Environmental Media Association. So these two fashionistas set out to launch a high-end eco friendly clothing line called Alexx Jae and Milk, where this contemporary collection can be found inside Bernstein’s shop.
The two source overstock fabric in downtown Los Angeles to create their line, where buttons are made from coconut and labels are printed with soy-based dye. The recycled fabric is actually utilized by way of upcycling, meaning these designers use fabrics that are left over from huge companies who mass produce. Sourcing everything in LA to avoid shipping and a carbon footprint has attracted the preservation conscious A-list celebrities, who can be seen on the red carpet and in those glossy star magazines sporting Alexx Jae and Milk ensembles.
