Are you an eggslut? If you’re offended and/or confused by this question, just ask any Los Angeles foodie and they’ll readily own up to being one…myself included. The chef driven, gourmet food concept- think epicurean Egg McMuffin- was founded in 2011 by Alvin Cailan. Inspired by a true love for eggs, the menu is a balance of comfort and innovation, all encompassing the key ingredient- and the perfect food in my opinion- eggs. No longer just a breakfast staple, eggslut makes eggs appetizing all day, everyday. The purveyor of LA’s ultimate breakfast sandwich is situated inside Downtown LA’s rehabilitated food hall, Grand Central Market. And they’ve cracked the code on breakfast. Otherwise, Angelenos wouldn’t be lined up every day for the humble egg.
eggslut was originally hatched as an egg-themed food truck and now the brick-and-mortar counter space seats 20, offering the classic diner experience. There’s also the added bonus of brioche bread and biscuits freshly baked onsite and orange juice by Press Brothers, another Grand Central tenant. Voyeurs of yolk porn can get sandwiches with its LA-grown free-range-all-organic eggs, and the ovo-centric menu includes their signature The Slut– coddled egg on smooth potato puree in a glass jar- and steak and eggs are listed among the specialties, along with a breakfast burrito and sunny side up egg topped nachos. You may need to double dose on your cholesterol pills. www.eggslut.com
