Named for the chic Buenos Aires street on which it’s located, Casa Cavia is a new concept boutique that brings together a combination of local tastemakers- a florist, a chef, a perfumer, and a bookseller- under one historic roof. They all come together in this remarkable space, a world blending the past, present and future inhabiting a gracious 1920’s home, retaining its grandeur and refinement. Casa Cavia is the brainchild of creative force Guadalupe Garcia Mosqueda, which operates as a restaurant, publishing house, bookstore, flower shop and perfumery. Mosqueda has drawn in the best new Argentine talent to create and host the various parts of the concept that aims to showcase the best while promoting architecture, gastronomy, design, literature and art.
The eclectic two-story house was designed by Norwegian architect Alejandro Christophesen in 1927 and has been updated by the London and San Francisco-based design firm Kallos Turin. The stunning result portrays the firm’s affinity for sleek and clean lines. The materials include white and green marble, brass, antique mirror, leather and terrazzo flooring, all inspired by the city’s cafes of the 1920’s and 1930’s. The stylish dining room is helmed by Pablo Massey, a protege of renowned chef Francis Mallman, where a volume from the bookstore library- run by art publisher Ampersand- occupies the dining room. Ampersand Publishing is the inspiration and anchor of Casa Cavia. It produces books but is also a center to exchange ideas, recalling the publishers of Europe and Americas at the beginning of the 20th century. This new enchanting fusion of sights, sounds and tastes is the place to be in Buenos Aires right now. www.casacavia.com
