A rose is just a rose. Or is it? The original Rose Cafe in Venice was both a neighborhood hangout and local landmark, having opened in 1979. But Venice in 2016- home to Silicon Beach, Abbot Kinney restaurant row, and chic shops- is definitely not Venice of the 1970’s and that is why the iconic beach restaurant has had a major reboot recently. The long-awaited project from chef Jason Neroni and uber restaurateur Bill Chait- of LA’s hottest eateries Bestia, Republique, and Red Bird- re-opened in November where these two have assembled an all-star team of cooks, bartenders, pastry chefs, bakers, and managers that make the Rose Cafe not only gorgeous to look at, but also a spot you’ll want to come back to.
The team is running a compound that seats 240 throughout the main dining room, a beer garden patio, a bar that includes counter, standing room and communal seating, and another large outdoor patio. Neroni’s all-day menu features the market driven food we’ve come to expect from him such as Salmon belly tartar, Brussel sprouts with poached egg, scallions and dashi, lamb schwarma pizza, pork meatballs, oven roasted short ribs and lots more. This much brighter, more open, more stylish Rose is definitely in bloom. www.rosecafevenice.com
