With architectural silhouettes reminiscent of Celine or Jil Sander and price tags more like Zara, H&M’s sister label, COS– Collection of Style- has captured the closets of the cool fashion set. Sweden’s minimalist-meets-cheap-chic brand has finally opened its first US location, in Beverly Hills…not New York by the way, although a Soho location will soon follow. The new LA store is big and airy, and feels more like a small boutique than a fast-fashion paradise. Like most COS locations, it carries pieces for men and children in addition to its expansive range of womenswear.
The two-story, 5,700 square foot store is housed in the old Banana Republic space and offers lots of natural light, an open gallery-esque Scandinavian/LA vibe, and midcentury modern furnishings. Los Angeles also served as design inspiration for the Swedish label as its designers looked to DTLA’s red hot art scene, the iconic Eames house in the Palisades, and California’s midcentury modern architecture. Most pieces are priced under $500, and until recently you would have to score a seat on Scandinavian Airlines if you wanted to peruse their goods. The label had a pop-up shop at Opening Ceremony this summer and launched an e-commerce site in July, but with their brand new Beverly Drive home in LA, we finally beat New York to the punch. www.cosstores.com
