International restaurateur Rohan Talwar and chef Mike Williams, formerly of the Tasting Kitchen in Venice, have recently opened Norah, LA’s newest- and buzziest- eatery in West Hollywood. The beautiful and elegant space has had many past lives but this new one is definitely more chic, having been completely redone by the German-born designer Thomas Schoos. Airy and warm, with loads of wood wrapping that runs up the walls, Norah invites guests to linger with lounge-y couches and chairs, a dramatic marble bar, large windows, and a ceiling that is open to the rafters.
The delicious menu is a blend of rustic New American flavors, done with a California backbone- and a pinch of Mumbai, which is where Talwar’s restaurant group originated. Drink-friendly bites include cauliflower popcorn, oysters on the half shell, and fried hominy cakes, while larger plates include uni butter poached shrimp, pork belly octopus, and rabbit two ways with grits. The custom-made woodturning grill is getting a workout from dishes like a grilled half chicken and hangar steak, while the charcuterie is made in-house. With other hot spots like Ysabel and Laurel Hardware in the area, Norah may just be ahead of the pack, blessed with both good looks and quality food. www.norahrestaurant.com
