Mykonos may be known as the Ibiza of Greece, but for the distinctly sophisticated traveler who seeks privacy but at the same time is close to the heart of the island, there happens to be a sanctuary of contemporary style known as Cavo Tagoo. Originally built atop an abandoned quarry in 1985, architect Paris Liakos completely renovated it in 2009 turning this barefoot-chic boutique hotel into the island’s most desirable spot. Set into a cliff blended with natural rock- the dominant external element which is maintained as part of the decor- Cavo Tagoo connects organically with its surroundings with soft curves of white buildings, stones covering the roofs, and materials like wood, stone and bamboo.

The five star hotel offers 80 spacious rooms- some with private plunge pools- including 18 suites and 11 villas. A gym and spa are also on hand where you can get your zen on with a wide variety of treatments- or just sweat out your hangover. An infinity seawater pool overlooking the Aegean Sea is equipped with an aquarium bar and wood decking and everything is designed with minimalistic decor and whitewashed walls, giving the perfect balance between comfort and style. Tagoo Kitchen restaurant specializes in contemporary Greek cuisine, but there’s also a sushi bar- not to mention Nobu nearby in town. The sunsets seem to be the most magical in all of Greece- as discovered on my friends Danielle and Sari’s Instagram feeds this week- which made me nostalgic for my Greek holiday last month. Unfortunately I never made it to Mykonos, I went to some other island. Next time… www.cavotagoo.gr
