What happens when three mixologists team up and represent their newly founded company called Cocktail Academy? You get Apartment A, a cocktail lab, event space, and drinking den founded by Matthew Landes, Brandyn Tepper and Max Kestenbaum. All three came from these LA hot spots respectively, Montage hotel, Hinoki & the Bird, and The Ace Hotel to create a private tasting environment that would serve as their headquarters in the center of DTLA’s red-hot Arts District. The multifaceted space operates in an industrial loft designed by Matt Winter, located around the corner from the famous Biscuit Company Lofts. Apartment A is dedicated to experimentation, cocktail development and intimate curated events and dinners with a full kitchen and bar.
The old-style brick building resembles San Francisco or old world New York, where you are transported into a different world as plants and foliage cover the walls and high ceiling, while industrial mill belts and antique furniture surrounds the space in a Boardwalk Empire-esque way. Hosting a variety of monthly classes, such as a lesson in whiskey or an introduction to rum, Apartment A teaches you to taste and take part in the cocktail development process. Other events include TRAVELocal, a dinner party in conjunction with TRUFFL, where the cuisine of Mexico is paired with cocktails. Apartment A/Cocktail Academy feel’s like you’re inside an artist’s studio, acting as an exhibit gallery and space for everything art related, while also mixing libations and food with each theme. Mix it good… www.apartmentala.com
