If you’re too busy to pick up a paintbrush- or you can’t paint to save your life- there’s a new App that turns your photos into watercolor works of art…no talent required. The design world is obsessed with Waterlogue, the new must-download app that digitally illustrates your photos, capturing everything you would want to accomplish as a painter. The modern day way for interior designers and bloggers to instantly share their homes and projects may be Instagram, but this $3 iPhone and iPad app has the social media-savvy crowd literally converting cell phone snapshots of their work into artwork. Waterlogue is the latest app from John Balestrieri- a former art student- and Robert Clair, who are both responsible for Percolator and Popsicolor.
The app is clean and simple with a very intuitive interface that turns photos into sketches that are filled in while you watch…think etch-a-sketch. You have the option to adjust color and brush stroke size, choose a filter- natural, luminous and rainy are just a few- tweak brightness and decide whether you want a border. Between the colors, the style and the textures, these photos really do look like watercolor paintings that can take you from an amateur to a Cezanne in a nanosecond. Balestrieri wanted non-artists to be able to see the world as an artist might by giving people access to a creative tool that doesn’t require any training. It’s now possible to take your favorite photos from your camera roll and hang them all over your home, passing them off as masterpieces. www.waterlogueapp.com
