With American men having spent $5 Billion on grooming products last year and manicures becoming more commonplace, it appears men are embracing products with cosmetic benefits that are used in a masculine way. Abandoning the stigma of male grooming as something effeminate, Tom Ford is launching Tom Ford for Men which will be available this fall. The designer-director, a modern day renaissance man, is taking on dude makeup where his line of male-targeted multifunctional skin-care grooming products will include bronzing gel, concealer, a purifying mud mask and two new fragrances.
Ford’s carefully calculated brand has served him well, and this launch follows the success of his cosmetics line for women- of which I am obsessed with- that debuted two years ago. Ford himself is a self described beauty junkie, and his trend-forecasting savvy is telling him 2013 is set to be the year of male luxury makeup- do you hear that Adam Lambert? His expensive beauty regimen will be far more upscale than most products the average man is used to…but will finally shed some light into what it takes to maintain our beauty, which can certainly come with a hefty price tag- if using the right products.
According to grooming club owner John Allan, men really do get good grooming, and these days where the work environment seems to be more cut-throat than ever, men now need to consider their appearance in the same way women have always had to. Tom Ford for Men will be joining this emerging marketplace alongside Marc Jacobs, who came out with his new line of unisex beauty products- such as moisture balm, remedy concealer pen, brow tamer, and grooming gel. Now, if every man could only look like the ravishing Tom Ford…but it’s nice to know they’ll be trying. www.tomford.com
