High above the chic design district in West Hollywood, Catch LA is the sparkling new West Coast outpost of NYC’s Catch restaurant. Just three weeks old, LA’s best new rooftop eatery is where A-listers and the beautiful people converge, having instantly caught on and fast becoming the hottest celebrity destination. Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum- partners of EMM Group- brought their successful Meatpacking district restaurant to LA- with additional locations in Dubai and Playa del Carmen- and upon entering the gorgeous 12,000 square feet open-air space you’ll be privy to lots of eye candy- and I’m not just talking about the good looking crowd. Once you’ve been cleared by the front door gatekeeper – that would be the doorman armed with his exclusive list- you’re whisked into a secret garden of sorts, illuminated by the Pacific Design Center with views of Downtown and Hollywood landmarks.
The 340-seat retractable rooftop space was designed by New York-based New World Design Builders- they also designed Catch NY and ABC Kitchen- and the signature open kitchen helmed by chef Andrew Carroll creates fresh local and sustainable ingredients, leaning more towards seafood. A blend of sushi and Asian influences such as sushi rolls and raw bar items like seafood towers and salmon belly carpaccio are the standouts, but for meat lovers, no worries here as you can indulge in whole rack of lamb, beef skewers, or even a 32-ounce aged ribeye. Remm and Birnbaum are no strangers to hospitality, they’re nightlife veterans who made their mark with NYC bottle service club Tenjune a decade ago. They know how to blend exclusivity with actual good service and although Angelenos have been a bit irked at their door policy, Remm and Birnbaum insist it’s due to crowd control. So for now, Catch is only accepting table requests from friends and friends of friends, making it a private supper club of sorts…with paparazzi, of course. That’s my kind of catch. www.catchrestaurants.com
