Designer Alexandra Suhner Isenberg is on a mission to add a touch more polish to women’s sleeping wardrobes and upgrade your REM-time style. Three years ago, she launched The Sleep Shirt, a label focused on elegantly, simple, unisex bedclothes based on a 19th century chemise she found at a vintage menswear stall in London’s Spitalfield’s Market. Both effortless and classic, the collection is produced in Canada where Suhner Isenberg is from, and designed in the small town of Vaxjo, where she is now based. The brand is newly available stateside having made its way to the US via e-commerce site, The Line, and Barney’s New York and Beverly Hills stores.
The oversized, unisex night shirt is perfect for a chalet in the mountains, a hut on the beach, or the poshest of hotel rooms, and comes in classic colors and patterns and soft fabrics like Japanese cotton and linen. Suhner Isenberg felt that people spend so much money decorating their bedrooms with beautiful beds and high-threat count sheets, so why wouldn’t they want to sleep in something as chic as their beds? And that was how her nightwear company began, with just a simple nightshirt design. She sports her shirts out of the bedroom too…and even out of the house, over jeans, shorts, or a bikini at the beach and loves how they give off a little bit of sexiness without being really revealing. A stylish night’s sleep for sure. www.thesleepshirt.com
