California Dreaming

With a background in music on the public relations side, Record Concierge Lea Sindij has outfitted the newest Santa Barbara boutique hotel, The Goodland, with a library of rock, rap, and reggae designed to remind visitors that it isn’t merely a luxury property, it’s a luxury property in Southern California, the world capital of SoCal cool-ness. The Goodland is the second Kimpton property in Santa Barbara which opened in late October, and the feel is mid-century-meets-surf. Designed in beach-chic SoCal style, the hotel- a former Holiday Inn- was refurbished by the Santa Monica-based design firm Studio Collective.

The pet-friendly hotel features 158 guest rooms and suites, and the lobby is lined with a fireplace and photo booth. The collection of vinyl records can actually be played in-room, versus just a really cool prop, and the pool has already become a hot spot where DJ’s spin alongside specialty crafted cocktails, buckets of beer, and spiked-aqua frescos that circulate throughout the crowd which is made up of younger creative types and entrepreneurs…albeit luxury oriented. Kimpton properties are known for making unique statements and The Goodland doesn’t disappoint, such as perks like Mexican Coca-Cola or Coronita upon check-in. Although The Goodland is situated slightly outside Santa Barbara in nearby Goleta, it’s safe to say the surf is always up. www.thegoodland.com
