With a growing stream of full- and part-time denizens migrating 90 miles northward from Los Angeles, Ojai’s cultural atmosphere is also becoming more design-conscious. Actor and interior designer Channon Roe and his wife Bianca, a former model and actress, used to be one of those LA families that would weekend in Ojai- a city of 8,000- but they have settled there permanently, attracted to the natural beauty that inspires them creatively. Last November they opened their lifestyle store In The Field, a 2,000 square-foot store for modern bohemians, housed in a Spanish Colonial Revival style building.

They’ve created a showcase for home and fashion accessories, clothing, furnishings, and other goods that strike their wide ranging fancies. It’s also a base for Channon’s design services and a chance to put some roots down. The store embodies the couple’s passion for travel, art, and design, where the selection of labels were previously unlikely to appear in Ojai…LA, yes. Rachel Craven table linens and Matteo bedding are two examples of the LA-made goods displayed on artfully installed plywood shelving and vintage tables. Women’s clothing includes Pas de Calais, Mes Demoiselles, Ten Undies lingerie, and other brands. In the men’s section, surfboards resting against custom-built racks reflect another one of Channon’s lifelong passions. www.inthefieldojai.com
