Inside a Hollywood Art Deco building that was once the legendary Howard Hughes Studios, a layout full of long mysterious hallways houses a modern-day arbiter of style called Just One Eye. The progressive boutique/showroom/gallery that launched Damien Hirst’s $50K backpack features one-of-a-kind collaborations, thoughtful artistic exploration, and showcased objects hand selected for quality, innovation and artistry. Opened by the former fashion director of LA’s fashion temple Maxfield, style sorceress Paola Russo stocks exclusive pieces of clothing, art, jewelry, design and more with the goal of being an open and ongoing space for curation with the best names in fashion.
Tightly edited by Russo and her team, Just One Eye nurtures connections to a variety of imaginative minds, such as the Damien Hirst collaborated backpack with The Row- the Olsen twin’s successful fashion line- which was just the beginning, as they are all about artistic partnerships. Tunisian-born, French-bred and Los Angeles-based Russo- who also worked for the avant-garde designer Ann Demeulemeester- initially launched Just One Eye as a website in late 2011, and one year later the retail space followed. Inspired by the freedom and space LA offers, both the website and store chronicle her wide-ranging interests where she carries big designer brands and smaller ones as well, and changes the art installations every three weeks- Ed Ruscha even made his first ever digital work for the website’s home page.
